Small Tanks With Big Problems

Total Tankage places several tanks inside compact maze arenas and lets them fight until one side gains the advantage.

The action appears from above, so you can see the walls, passages, nearby enemies, and incoming shots. Movement looks simple at first, but the maze quickly turns every fight into a game of positioning.

Driving straight toward another tank often gives the opponent an easy target. Using corners and walls can keep you alive for much longer.

Bullets Do Not Stop at the First Wall

One of the most important parts of Total Tankage is the way shells bounce.

A shot can hit a wall and travel in another direction instead of disappearing. This means an opponent does not always need to sit directly in front of your cannon.

You can aim at a nearby wall and try to send a shell around a corner. The same idea can also go wrong. A poorly aimed shot may bounce back toward your own position.

Firing without thinking can fill a tight passage with dangerous shells.

Look for Useful Pickups

Power-ups appear around the battlefield and give players another reason to move through the maze.

Some pickups improve your ability to attack. Others can provide useful protection. Reaching one before another player can change the direction of the round.

Going after every item still carries a risk. Open areas may leave your tank exposed, and another player may already have a clear angle toward the pickup.

Battle the Computer or Other Players

Total Tankage supports fights against computer-controlled opponents and local multiplayer matches.

Up to three people can take part on the same computer. Different players use separate keyboard controls, while another control setup can use the mouse.

The game also offers several match modes, giving players more than one way to set up a tank fight.

Use the Maze as Part of Your Weapon

The walls do more than divide the arena into small corridors.

They provide cover, create hiding places, and give you surfaces for bouncing shots. Moving behind a corner may save you from a direct attack. A carefully aimed shell may travel through the maze and catch another tank from an unexpected direction.

Total Tankage keeps the basic rules easy to understand. Drive, fire, avoid enemy shells, and grab useful power-ups. The bouncing ammunition and crowded maze layouts give those simple actions much more depth once several tanks start fighting at the same time.
